Previous research at Hopkins Childrenshowed that the same approach, known as oral immunotherapy, can be used successfully to treat children with milk allergies. Some of the children in the milk allergy study overcame their condition completely, and many experienced less severe allergic symptoms as a result of the therapy.

Now, researchers are reporting similarly encouraging results in children with egg allergies.

Just as we saw in our patients with milk allergies before, oral immunotherapy for children with egg allergies works in the same way by slowly retraining the immune system to tolerate the allergens that caused allergic reactions, says study investigator Robert Wood, M.D., director of Allergy Immunology at Hopkins Children"s.

Researchers caution that confirming these early results requires long-term monitoring of the current patients and enrolling more children in the ongoing trials. They also caution that oral immunotherapy should be implemented only by a trained pediatric allergist.

In the 11-month study of 45 children ages 5 to 18, researchers gave 40 patients increasingly higher doses of egg whites during multiple food challenges conducted in a clinic and under a doctorsupervision, while 15 children received placebo, dummy food that looks like egg whites but contains no egg protein. All children received higher and higher doses of either placebo or actual egg protein in the course of the 11 months.

At the end of the study, during a final food challenge, more than half of the children who had been consuming eggs (21 out of 40) could tolerate 5 grams of eggs without having an allergic reaction. None of the children who received placebo were able to tolerate eggs during the final food challenge.

When symptoms did occur, investigators say, they were mild to moderate and involved mostly itching and swelling of the mouth and throat.

Children who consumed eggs also had lower blood levels of IgE antibodies -- immune markers that rise during an allergic reaction -- and a significant drop in the levels of egg-specific basophils, a type of while blood cell that multiplies during an allergic reaction.

Food allergies have been steadily rising in the last decade and are becoming harder to outgrow, research shows. An estimated 2 percent to 3 percent of U.S. children have egg allergies.

AB InBev to buy Modelo this year: attorney Evolution

LONDON (Reuters) - Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI.BR), the world"s largest brewer, is likely to buy the 50 percent it does not own of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo (GMODELOC.MX) this year for around $10.8 billion, said broker Evolution Securities.

A Modelo deal could follow Heineken"s (HEIN.AS) acquisition of Mexico"s other big brewer FEMSA Ceverza (FMSAUBD.MX) in January, and Evolution said Modelo with its larger share of the domestic and export beer markets is the more attractive brewer.

"We believe that a deal is likely to be announced this year ... We believe that a Modelo acquisition would provide a catalyst for outperformance," said analyst Andrew Holland in a broker"s note on Tuesday.

Modelo, which brews Corona beer, controls 58 percent of the world"s sixth largest beer market, Mexico, compared to FEMSA"s 42 percent, and accounts for 88 percent of Mexico"s beer export market compared to FEMSA"s 12 percent, the broker said.

AB InBev gained its 50.2 percent economic stake and 43.9 percent voting stake in Modelo after InBev"s acquisition of Anheuser-Busch in late 2008. The controlling shareholders of Modelo are several families of the founders of the various brewers which now make up the Mexican brewer.

The broker says that assuming a takeover Enterprise Value/Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization multiple of 11.6, the same as the Heineken-FEMSA deal, put a value on 50 percent of Modelo at $10.8 billion.

Evolution says now that AB InBev has completed its disposal program after its Anheuser deal and this acquisition has been refinanced, the timing for a Modelo deal was right.

It added that the arbitration between AB InBev and Modelo over the legality of AB InBev"s acquisition of Anheuser"s stake in Modelo has lasted longer than expected, encouraging speculation the two sides may be discussion a full acquisition.

AB InBev was not immediately available for comment.

ABUJA (Reuters) - Nigeria"s Acting President Goodluck Jonathan will nominate a new ministerial team by early next week, and is likely to reappoint around half the cabinet he has just sacked, presidency sources said on Thursday.

Fast appointment of the ministers could do much to alleviate uncertainty in Africa"s most populous nation after Jonathan dismissed the entire cabinet on Wednesday, aiming to consolidate his authority a month after assuming executive powers.

"Twenty of the ministers will certainly come back," one of the presidency sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity, adding that he expected Jonathan to send his list to the Senate for approval by Tuesday.

Former Minister of State for Petroleum Odein Ajumogobia was likely to be the new oil minister in the OPEC member nation while outgoing Defense Minister Godwin Abbe, who has overseen an amnesty program in the oil-producing Niger Delta, would be re-appointed, the source said.

Choosing a new cabinet which retains a large number of ministers suggests Nigeria"s broad policy direction is unlikely to change and could let Jonathan push ahead more authoritatively with his agenda in the 14 months left of this presidential term.

"The cabinet dissolution is a bid to inject fresh blood and bring in greater vigor to governance," Jonathan"s spokesman Ima Niboro said, but declined to comment further.

Jonathan assumed executive powers in early February to try to end government paralysis in the absence of President Umaru Yar"Adua, who had been in a clinic in Saudi Arabia receiving treatment for a heart condition for more than two months.

Yar"Adua has since returned but remains too sick to govern or even speak with Jonathan. Presidency sources say he is still in a mobile intensive care unit and Jonathan"s consolidation of power reinforces the view that he is unlikely to return.

But the acting president"s public statements have shown a will to accelerate, not depart from, the policies of Yar"Adua, with electoral reform, fighting corruption, restoring power supply and reviving the Niger Delta amnesty his top priorities.

TURBULENT TIMES

Nigeria can ill afford weak government with resurgent unrest in two of its most volatile regions and key reforms bills before parliament.

These include electoral reforms meant to avoid a repeat of the shambolic vote that brought Yar"Adua to power three years ago, a wide-ranging overhaul of the energy sector, and a bill to create a bad bank sorely needed to revive lending in sub-Saharan Africa"s number two economy.

Violence in the "Middle Belt" between Nigeria"s mostly Muslim north and largely Christian south has killed hundreds of people this year, while militants in the Niger Delta detonated car bombs this week and have threatened more attacks.

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), which planted the bombs in the oil city of Warri on Monday, said the sacking of the cabinet in itself changed nothing.

"Unfortunately the only signal of goodwill ... we will consider is when the issues of resource control are announced to be debated in the Senate or implemented in a constitutional amendment," it said in an email to Reuters.

The opposition Action Congress welcomed the cabinet dissolution but warned Jonathan that if he gave in to vested interests in choosing his team, the new cabinet would be as weak as the old.

"It was the (former) ministers" lack of courage, flimsy loyalty and downright selfishness that eventually left the cabinet divided, paving the way for it to fall like a pack of cards," the party said in a statement.

The speed with which Jonathan wins approval for his choice of new ministers will be a key test of his political backing.

There is broad consensus on the need for reforms and lawmakers are unlikely to want to be seen to be undermining progress. But other issues could prove more divisive.

The presidency source said former Information Minister Dora Akunyili, the only member of the cabinet to criticize those around Yar"Adua openly for the handling of his absence, would be nominated for Minister for the Federal Capital Territory.

Akunyili"s criticism of Yar"Adua"s inner circle for their efforts to cling to power won her public support but also powerful enemies. Some lawmakers may need some persuading if her return to government is to be approved.

The current presidential term ends in May next year and the reforms could bring elections forward to next January, giving Jonathan a short time to push ahead with his agenda.

According to Rawnsley, Mr Brown also interrupted the Prime Minister"s stay with the Queen at Balmoral.

His fury was "titanically demented", and Mr Brown raged that Blairite former health secretary Alan Milburn had written an article setting out the case for Mr Blair to stay.

"You put ******* Milburn up to it," Mr Brown told Mr Blair down the phone. "This is factionalism! This is Trotskyism! It"s ******* Trotskyism!"

A relaxed Mr Blair had not even read the article but he later phoned Mr Milburn to say it was excellent.

Differences between Mr Brown and Mr Darling emerged at theweekend in extracts from Andrew Rawnsley"s book The End Of The Party.

Rawnsley claims that a furious Mr Brown phoned Mr Darling in 2008ordering him to back down after he gave an interview in which he issueda gloomy forecast that the recession would be the worst for 60 years.

Anonymous allies of Mr Brown were subsequently quoted in newspapers suggesting Mr Darling was likely to be sacked.

Referring to this in an interview with Sky News on Tuesday night, MrDarling said: "The forces of hell were unleashed. I do not know why thebriefers did what they did."

His remarks intensified the focus on techniques employed by MrBrown"s circle of advisers including former political spokesmen CharlieWhelan and Damian McBride.

Allies insisted his intervention was not premeditated, but said he would not withdraw his allegations.

"He"s not going to deny anything ever happened," said onesympathetic MP. "He is a man of great integrity and he won"t obfuscatein that way."

"Actually, we work in an open-plan office, we are a sort of familyin Downing Street and like every family there are issues that come fromtime to time, but we have got a great working environment and we getthings done."

At Prime Minister"s Questions, Tory leader David Cameron said:"Six weeks before an election with a record budget deficit at the endof a long recession, I want to ask why the Prime Minister andChancellor are at war with each other?"

Mr Brown and Mr Darling sat so close to one another andwhispered so intently as Mr Cameron spoke that the Tory leader joked:"Any closer, they"ll start kissing!"

The Prime Minister has likened his woes to those of England manager Fabio Capello, saying the football boss "would sympathise with me".

He indicated that he has as much trouble controlling his party as the England manager has with wayward stars John Terry and Ashley Cole.

In an interview with Shortlist magazine, the Prime Minister likened himself to Capello when asked about his own "internal party issues".

"I think maybe Fabio Capello would sympathise with me," he said. "Bill Shankly, when he was manager of Liverpool said: I dont drop people, I just make changes. Theres something in that. Youve got make decisions that are best for the team.

He told the title of his love for football and said he had always wanted to be a manager in the sport. had always wanted to be a football manager.
